Inking continued

These are some smaller inkblots I did on some paper I found in the living room. I think something was shipped in it, kinda newsprinty.
I like these small ones, but the one above is my least favorite.
The images, in a way, decide their own orientation. When I make them I just set them aside and figure out later how they should be turned.
The larger ones are kind of unusual because the consistency of the paint I was using was not spreading throughout the paper. Less blotty more spotty.
This one was interesting to me because it made me think of this specific area of the body. I tried to position it below with what I was thinking.
I've been really interested with doing these blots because the projective personality tests I have been studying. It is this idea that an image can be anything to anyone, I like the idea that there is no wrong interpretation of the work. I've always hated art history classes making me think of a piece of art in one specific way. I like the freedom to read into things and find meaning within myself.

I've always wanted to try photographing some television images. These are a few stills I took while I was watching some news footage.





I really like the way the camera captures the images in such a seemingly low quality.

Magnificently written

Excerpt from East of Eden:

The baby was drunk for two days and a half. Whatever may have happened in his developing brain, it proved beneficial to his metabolism: from that two and a half days his father finally went out and bought a goat, Adam drank the milk greedily, vomited, drank more, and was on his way. His father did not find the reaction alarming, since he was doing the same thing.

Empty Bedroom Set

We have an empty bedroom in the house right now. I really like it.
The bed is borrowed from someone for our new roomate to use while she lives here. I would like to have a bed this small and simple.
It seems more appropriate for me.
I love the lighting the rooms on the backside of the house get. My room is on the front (facing east) so I always get harsh morning light and these rooms get the softer setting sun light through the trees.

We do what we do to get by and then we need a release.

These are a few of the photos I like from my recent trip to Spain.
The trip was interesting and I learned a lot, but it made me glad to go back home. There are plenty of nice things about Europe, but I never saw it as a place to live.
The entire place seemed like a work in progress at times. Although most of it was old and historic, the whole place seemed to be living in the past.
My favorite times were spent in Aranjuez, a small town outside of Madrid. I lived and worked in a community for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Being part of their community was what made the trip worth while. I wasn't there to look at them or take photos, I was there to be part of what they were part of.

Binge Project Excerpt

These got posted in reverse order, but I wanted to show a little of a book project I am working on. Tomorrow I am submitting "The Binge Project" to blurb so that I get a published book for our class book show next week.
The book started as a scientific study on blackouts and I was trying to measure when they happen in the course of a night of drinking. Somewhere along the way it turned into a memoir project instead.
The photos are taken every ten minutes an there are about 25 of them total. The pages of the book contain hand written notes discussing various nights I blacked out in the past...there are a lot of them!
Overall, I am happy with the results. I think I have been reading too much Tucker Max and Chelsea Handler, which is why the end result was memoir-esque. I think it will be something fun to read when I am old and grey. Although, I don't know when I'd let my children read it.
There is also going to be a small flip book on the lower left page corner of a drink that starts full and ends empty. Hopefully it works out right when the book is printed.
